In the 1970’s Chenoa’s grandparent’s planted Gewurztraminer alongside their Pinot Noir in Sonoma Valley on the base of Sonoma Mountain. The vines flourished until 2017, when the Nuns Fire jumped the highway and surged through the family’s property, decimating the vineyard, and the family homestead of over 50 years. In 2020, we discovered through the tall jungle of uncut grass, that shoots from the Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer had regrown throughout the years. We restored 160 vines that were seemingly dead and in 2021 we harvested this rare, resilient fruit.
Historically, the Gewurztraminer was blended with the Pinot Noir, but we wanted to highlight and preserve the beautiful rose petal aromatics of Gewurztraminer, so we floated the whole cluster Gewurztraminer on direct pressed French Colombard (2021) for 6 months in a large stainless barrel. Bottled aged for 6 months, Lagom, a Swedish word for not too much, not too little, the perfect amount, is singing in her prime. She is delicate yet rounded, and full of rebirth, as she prevailed and regrew even after devastation.
No additions or subtractions. Unfined, unfiltered, zero SO2.
